Pastel and Poetry ~ Portraits in Prose
...People, Pets and Places...
Ann Yarmal is a local, Show Low, Arizona artist and poet. She attended figure drawing classes at Southern Connecticut University and studied collage with Artist, Claire Perrone in Manhattan, NYC. While attending classes at NPC in Show Low in portrait and figure drawing, she worked in pastel with Artist-Instructor, Randy White.
During her professional career as a librarian, Ann used her artistic skills to create large dimension collages for the walls and halls of the Greenwich Library Children's Room in Connecticut.
Now, several years into retirement, Ann has taken up pastel portraiture and landscape art to paint people, pets, and the flora and fauna of the White Mountains.
Ann's work has been exhibited at the Show Low Historical Museum and the former Greenhouse Nursery. Many of her recent paintings are exhibited in the Gallery Rooms of the Show Low Senior Center and at the High Country Gallery in Lakeside.
Most of her new work is done through commissions, though she still favors spur-of-the-moment portraits and landscapes.
Ann Yarmal's poetry has been published by Yuganta Press, 1989; The North Star and the Southern Cross and has appeared in collections and numerous journals throughout the country, most recently in "And Then" (2007) ed. Robert Roth and Taproot Press, "Taproot Literary review" (2004).
Ann has read locally at the Fine Arts Gallery in Pinetop and at the Arts Alliance of the White Mountains, sponsored, "Favorite Poem Night" held annually at Northland Pioneer Community College in Show Low, Arizona.
